“A New Dawn” Collection of Poems

This collection of creativity celebrates the power of a new birth in the face of a new year; a new season. Built with the submissions from multiple contestants in the Father’s Feather January 2023 poetry contest edition, below are their creative submissions:

My Dawn – Ayoade Croyance

I sat, sea side, gazed at nature’s hue,

An eve so beautiful, never before knew,

Longed to linger, unveil Pandora’s prize,

A pleasant breeze, carrying scents that comprise.

With diary in hand, Cupid’s arrow kissed,

“Croyance,” they praised, what’s the secret missed?

Like rice that’s white, an obvious appeal,

My book’s meaning inspires, hearts it will heal.

Unique title, “Shakara,” I mused,

Mystery untold, intrigue infused,

As writer of “Shakara,” a feat in my grasp,

Best African writer, 2024, a resounding gasp.

World speaks of Shakara, young and old,

Producers flock, dreams unfold,

Choosing the right one, a decision to make,

Contemplating the path that my book will take.

A new chapter, a dawn, emotions unfold,

Dreams turned reality, a story to be told,

Fans clamor for autographs, their love so true,

“Croyance, we adore you,” their voices imbue.

A photographer’s flash, light upon my face,

Tables of kings, discussing, finding grace,

Wole Soyinka, wise and esteemed,

A platform for talents, a dream to redeem.

Bringing writers together, inspiration uncaged,

A notion agreed upon, the stage is staged,

JK Rowling adds her nod of approval,

The idea taken worldwide, inspiring removal.

A different place, a change in scene,

Amidst teenage girls, a vibrant sheen,

“What’s your worth?” I ask, before we proceed,

“I am respected, courageous, beautiful, indeed.”

Affirming our value, on a scale unknown,

Not determined by gadgets or signals we own,

Don’t let the girl syndrome weigh you down,

You’re unique, amazing, wear your crown.

Mother’s voice calls, time to break my trance,

A new dawn vision, a future advance,

This new year, a fresh start, it rings so clear,

With determination, I persevere.

A long list of goals, aspirations to reach,

A persistent itch, like a lesson to teach,

This new year’s dawn, so close, so dear,

Godspeed, dear diary, my intentions appear.

And remember it’s a secret dear dairy don’t whisper to someone else.

Rays of Renewal – Precious Chidiebere

In the golden light of a brand-new day,

A new dawn emerges, chasing the darkness away.

Color ignites the sky with vibrant hues,

A canvas of hope,painted anew.

The sun rises, with a gentle embrace

Kissing the world with warmth and grace.

Birds singing their Melodies ,joyfully they soar,

A symphony of possibilities,forevermore.

With each new dawn, a world of chance arise,

Like whispered secrets, hidden behind the skies.

Heartbeats quicken,as dreams take flights,

Embracing the unknown, with all their nights.

In the morning air, a sense of wonder grows

As possibilities bloom like a radiant rise.

Anticipation dances,in every eager breath

A symphony of excitement, conquering any depth.

In the embrace of dawn’s gentle light,

We shed the past, embracing what’s right.

A chance to grow, to learn,to evolve,

To let go of old and problems dissolves.

With each rising sun, we find our way

Transforming our spirits day by day.

Like a phoenix,we rise from the ashes

Embracing the new,leaving behind clashes

As the dawn unfolds it’s radiant glow,

A world of possibilities begins to show.

As the sun rises high, shining so bright,

We embrace the day with all of our light.

With heart full of hope and dreams in sight,

We step into the day, ready to take fight.

With hopes in our hearts and dreams in our eyes,

We’ll reach for the stars, reaching new highs.

In the embrace of a new dawn’s embrace,

We find the strength to conquer any space.

With courage and strength we’ll face what’s in store,

Knowing that we can achieve even more.

In each new dawn, a fresh start we find,

Leaving all worries and troubles behind.

With love in our heart and courage in our stride,

We’ll make our dreams come true, far and wide.

Auferstehung – Adeoti Adegoke

The sun rises on a new day,

A blank canvas of possibilities,

With the promise of a fresh start,

And new adventures to come,

The dawn brings hope and light,

A chance to begin again,

To take on challenges,

And make our dreams a reality.

Let’s seize the day,

With all the strength we can muster,

And make this new dawn,

As the sun rises over the horizon,

It brings with it a fresh start,

A new dawn, full of hope and promise,

A canvas for our ambitions,

The early morning light brings clarity,

And a sense of possibility,

A chance to leave the past behind,

And look to the future with new eyes.

Let’s make this day count,

Let’s make it one to remember,

With every moment filled with purpose,

With each breath a step forward.

Let’s not fear the unknown,

Let’s not be held back by doubt,

Let’s not be limited by fear,

Let’s not be bogged down by regret,

Let’s seize the day, without hesitation.

We can’t predict the future,

But we can shape it with our actions,

We can make this new dawn,

Into a masterpiece of our making,

We have the power to create,

The power to change our fate,

The horizon is filled with opportunity,

It’s a blank canvas of endless potential,

Let’s fill it with our dreams,

With all our hopes and goals,

Let’s not be afraid to take risks,

Let’s not be afraid to fail.

A New Beginning – David Adeoye

In the golden glow of a brand new dawn

A new dawn breaks shining so bright

Life awakens a fresh canvas to adorn

Ignoring all the cracks that’s left

Yesterday’s worries they fade away

As hope and possibilities come out to play

So let this new dawn be your guiding light

With each rising sun a chance to renew

A beacon of hope shining ever so bright

To chase dreams and make them come true

Leave behind the shadows that held you tight

Embrace the light let your spirit take flight

In this new chapter let your heart be free

With every sunrise hope is born anew

Promising a day that’s fresh and true

Discover the wonders that lie ahead, you’ll see

With every step let joy be your guide

As you embark on this magical ride

So let the sun’s rays gently guide,

As dreams take flight, side by side.

Embrace the possibilities let your spirit soar

For in this new beginning endless wonders are in store

The night will shine like the noon day sun

As the earth wakes up on days like this

A journey of wonder from the depths of the heart

The endless possibilities in this new space

Dance upon what remains of death’s empty threat

The world awakens ready to embrace

With each new dawn a chance to start

As darkness fades bidding goodbye

The Me I Was and The Me I Became – Tomiwa Olayinka

TIME, A DEMANDING MASTER, FOR ALL I AM BECOMES A COMMAND BENEATH HIS WISH,

PAIN, HURT, ME, HATE, MISTAKE.

A BONDING FRIENDSHIP THAT NEVER CEASES TO EXIST.

DEFINITELY, I’VE ALWAYS FELT LIKE.

I WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE.

ON THE BRAKE AND DRIVE, MY LEGS ON THE BOTH OF THEM PEDALS.

AND I STILL CAN’T DECIDE.

EVEN IF I MANAGE TO SETTLE.

THEN I REALIZE.

AND I KNOW THAT I AM LOSING THE BATTLE.

BECAUSE THESE THINGS ON MY SHOULDERS, I REALLY CAN’T COPE WITH ALL THE STRESS.

BURDENS ON MY HEART, CAN I ROLL THEM OFF MY HEART?

CAN I SEPARATE OR DETECT, THE WRONG THOUGHTS INSIDE MY HEAD?

WITH PRESSURE, MY BACK’S AGAINST THE WALL NOW EVERYTHING IS SO INTENSE.

ALL THE PROBLEMS THAT I HAVE STUDY ME LIKE I’M THEIR COURSE.

RED FLAGS HOVERING ROUND MY MIND, IT’S NOT EASY TO THE IGNORE.

INSECURITY IS A KEY.

FEAR HAS USED IT TO UNLOCK.

NOW I’M LOOKING FOR THE SUBSTANCE THAT CAN HELP ME WITH MY THOUGHTS.

WITH THIS ASPECT OF MY LIFE, ALL I WANT TO DO IS FLIP THE PAGE.

WHY SHOULDN’T I?

IT IS COVERED WITH THE LETTERS OF MISTAKES.

CHANE IS FOR A REASON, I’M HOPING THESE PAGES COULD BE ERASED.

IT SURELY WON’T BE CLEARED BUT SOMETHING ELSE COULD TAKE THEIR PLACE.

DON’T DISTURB ME.

WHERE I AM WHEN YOU LEAVE ME, I’LL BE FINE.

IT IS PROCESS THAT IS GRADUAL.

REALLY ALL I NEED IS TIME.

YOUR OPINION DOESN’T MATTER.

SO JUST LEAVE ME TO DECIDE.

IF IT HELPS ME THEN OF COURSE.

I’LL SURRRENDER TO THE RHYME.

CHAPTERS OF MY LIFE, INK IN MY PEN.

PAGES OF MY STORY, PAINT TO SHOW THE WORLD.

VERSES OF WHO I AM, PROCESS FOR YOU TO LEARN.

OH, THIS IS MY EXPERIENCE.

LETTERS I PEN DOWN, NOTES TAKEN HAVE NOW BECOME AN ESCAPE.

A BLIND FOLD FOR A MOMENT IN TIME, I CAN NO LONGER SEE MY SHAME.

PASSION FOR THE GIFT, YET I HURT SO MUCH, I’LL USE MY WORDS TO RESCUE OTHERS IN PAIN.

POETRY, A SAVIOUR TO ME, SOON TO YOU, A NEW BEGINNING ON CUE TO FIT THE CHANGE.

Eternal Sunrise – Nwoba Benedict Tochukwu

In the calm cradle of the embrace of the night,

In the great expanse where stars unfold their stories,

A whispered vow lurks, ready to be revealed,

Whispers of a new dawn, secrets not yet revealed.

The moon, a dim light in the sky to the west,

Pulls back when the sun reclaims its proper throne,

A smooth transition from night to day,

Nature’s orchestration in a cosmic ballet.

The sky, a canvas adorned with hues of daybreak,

From tones of warm blush to inky black,

A subtle but significant shift,

As daylight breaks through silently.

The soil, covered in tapestries glistening with dew,

Rises beneath the loving gaze of the sun,

Every blade of grass is reborn.

A symphony of life at the ready in the morning.

The river, a ribbon that gleamed with sunlight,

Meanders across the terrain, a reflecting liquid,

A calm voyage with every cascading stream,

A tale spoken in the soft ebb and flow of the river.

And when the sun rises to the top of its throne,

A pledge unfolds in the infinite heavens,

An opportunity to start, to aim, to be,

The gift of a fresh dawn, an eternally free earth.

The sounds of the songbirds weave through the early morning air,

As they unite in a lovely chorus.

Every note is a celebration of the light breaking.

A sonnet sung to the thrill of the unfolding day.

The meadows, a rainbow of color,

As blossoms unfold to welcome the warm kiss of the sun,

In the gentle light of dawn, a ballet of petals,

A dance of life—Nature’s masterpiece.

Life rises in this symphony of morning.

Animals stir in the cool morning air.

A freshly painted scene of existence,

Every heartbeat is a pulse within the cosmic fusion.

So let’s explore this story as it unfolds.

Savor the warmth of the dawn,

For every sunrise offers the possibility of a new beginning.

A blank canvas, a freshly worn morning.

Emancipation – Akpoke Emmanuel

The favourite of lands,

In a time so keen.

Like that of the Canaan lands

with leaves so green.

Here comes a source of livelihood.

A beautiful place to behold,

Close to that of Naboth’s garden.

To which tourist’s memories can hold,

Even if It’s nothing close to Eden.

All good things are called beautiful.

To whom it may concern!

This farm belongs to Him,

Who is able to discern

In what man sees as slim.

We’ve come to what may be touched

This farm has proceeds,

In that, while in it’s fertility,

The owner succeeds.

For what is hostility,

Where good things abide.

But evil thrives fam,

When good people do nothing.

There came Invaders of this farm.

They don’t see good as something,

Instead they regard evil as the best.

The once very good farm,

Is turning out to become a mess,

Producing products that can harm.

It seems to be complex like chess,

We walk this path to breathe our last.

How is it that we enjoy what is bad?

Did we choose deceit over the truth?

The good society we once had,

Is one that no longer bear fruit.

What an ungrateful generation!

It is becoming an absolute war.

Maybe we need a Gideon

A mighty man of valor.

A dove in-charge of a dungeon

Capable of throwing these destroyers into where they fit in.

Ballet of Possibilities – Omogiate Sophie

In the golden hues of morning light,
A new dawn breaks, chasing away the night.
With each rays of sunlight that gently peeks,
A world of possibilities it truly speaks.
The darkness fades, replaced by hues so bright,
As nature’s awakens, bathed in Golden light,
The birds sing their joyful melodies, welcoming the day with harmonious ease.
The air is filled with promises untold,
As hope and inspiration begin to unfold.
In this fresh beginning, hearts are stirred,
With the belief that anything can be conquered.
With every step, we leave behind the past,
Embracing the future, holding it fast.
In this “New Dawn,” let’s spread our wings,
And soar to heights where freedom sings.
Mountains stand proud in the morning haze,
Sunlight kisses shadows, bidding adieu, A chapter fresh, each day to pursue. Footprints
on a path yet to be trod, A symphony of possibilities, a gift from God.
The breeze whispers secrets to the trees,
Imagination takes flight, a journey divine.
A celebration of morning that never ends,
Of adventures waiting to unfold.
In this new dawn, dreams takes flight,
As aspirations soar to incredible heights.
With every breath, a chance to start anew,
To chance ambitions both bold and true.
So let’s embrace this “New Dawn” with glee,
Dancing across the sky in a celestial display.
Each ripple tells a tale untold,
We’ll paint a picture, with verses divine.
No echoes of yesterday, just the now, A pledge to grow, to learn, to allow. In the dawn’s
embrace, dreams take flight, A dance with beginnings, pure and bright.
As the sun rises, a fresh day begins,
With endless possibilities, a new chapter to begin.
Embracing the dawn, we step into the light,
Writing our stories with hope and delight.

End of Night – David Praise

The shade lace the night shape
The dawn makes a brand new day
Unforeseen tales to say
Unpredictable the day
Silent morn we pray
And grace that slays delay
Our flaws have slain grace
Let the day rise, illuminate the sponged ways
We have tried yesterday night
but our names is still yet to be heard
Each day wanes, our shadows fade,
In the class of the morning, our beauty shall fame
Grace is never slayed until the end is faced
Tomorrow we shall see it great
Night is passing away, our flaws has eliminated our doze
Tender us a hope, renewal, we shall gather our defect to fire
A fleeting breeze, that fizzles in a bit
Let record believe, we existed for real
The shadow is slim; there is no time it speaks
Succor our dreams, Don’t leave without an assist
Saddle the ass, we will take a flight
A chance of time, give us this time
Decline the maze, that made history a waste
We have reasoned again to manage our days
The choice we make isn’t enough to navigate the race
We need more days for the story to change
The night sky sleeps in the dark
When she wakes, let our value shine like hers
Where the sea sits, we can’t go
But we can fly higher than the eagle if chance condole
We still breathe, our fate is still fixed
Before time squeezes, show us to dignitaries
Silent dawn makes our heart wonder yonder
Be tender to our age on this matter platter
The nocturnal day sleeps to birth a new face
This new face demands grace, let us claim
Through flaws and shadows, we persevere,
Awaiting the day our voices clear.
Let the chapters yet to be penned,
Declare our existence, let them transcend.

A New Start – Liya

The new dawn arrives,

A fresh start, a clean slate.

The sun rises, casting light

On the possibilities ahead.

Each day is a chance to begin again,

To make a new start, to try again.

Mistakes of the past

Are lessons for the future.

The new dawn brings hope

And the promise of change.

Each breath is a new beginning,

Each step is a new journey.

With courage and strength,

We face the unknown.

The new dawn brings a chance

To create something beautiful.

As the day unfolds,

The possibilities unfold too.

With each moment, we grow,

We learn, we evolve.

The new dawn is a reminder

Of the beauty of life.

Each breath is a gift,

Each moment a treasure.

With gratitude and grace,

We embrace the new dawn.

A new day, a new chance,

To make a difference, to make a change.

As the sun sets on the day,

The new dawn fades into memory.

Yet its impact remains,

Its lessons are ingrained.

We carry its hope

Into the night, into the future.

The new dawn has come and gone,

But its legacy lives on.

Each day is a new beginning,

Each night a new ending.

The cycle continues,

The journey goes on.

We rest in the darkness,

In preparation for the light.

When the new dawn arrives,

We’ll greet it with open arms.

 A new dawn breaks,

Light and hope awake.

The night fades away,

A new day’s here to stay.

The sun’s golden rays,

Paint the sky in hues of grey.

The clouds part, reveal the sky,

Blue and vast, so high.

A fresh start, a clean slate,

A new beginning, no need to wait.

A new day, a new way,

To make your dreams come true today.

The possibilities are endless,

So make the most of this new bless.

Rise and shine, greet the day,

With a smile

A new day dawns,

With infinite possibilities.

The sun peeks over the horizon,

With a warm and gentle kiss.

The birds begin to sing,

In sweet harmony.

The world awakens,

With hope and possibility.

The past is gone,

But the future is bright.

Today is a fresh start,

Where anything is possible.

A new dawn,

Filled with endless potential.

So open your eyes,

And greet the day with a

Smile on your face,

And joy in your heart.

Embrace the new day,

With all that it brings.

Let go of the past,

And live in the present.

For this moment is all we have,

And it’s a gift to be cherished.

So fill it with love,

And make it your own.

For every new day,

Is a chance to begin again.

A new dawn,

A new start,

A new day.

What will you make of it?

It’s up to you,

What you choose to do.

Sinner – Amah Ebube

I unwinged a firefly to explore pain and I found myself wounded, and the doctor said I will die, the cure to my ailment is death my crimes are too many to be pardoned

And I called him insane, for saying my diagnosis says I’m a sinner, which radiologist diagnosed sins instead of sickness but this sins weighs me down and wound cuts deeper now

I’m at the point of death

Today in the church I knelt at the confessional; forgive me father for I have sinned was the only word I could utter but the priest wants to hear more and I said – I will die

these were only the interpretation my doctor gave me about my diagnosis but

I want to put this poem the way I feel and tell you the only way to name a situation is to become the act

The priest not shocked, looks me in the eyes, said son, your sins are forgiven, go and sin no more, but I wanted to know what

These sins /sicknesses were, but all I could say was – amen.
